TOOTH PAIN & DENTAL INFECTION

Emergency Dental Infection Care in Scottsdale, AZ

A dental infection can quickly turn a manageable dental problem into a painful and stressful situation. If you are experiencing tooth pain, swelling, sensitivity, a bad taste in your mouth, or other signs that something may be wrong, we encourage you to seek professional dental care rather than waiting for the problem to resolve on its own.

At Princess Center Dentistry, we provide emergency dental care for patients in Scottsdale and the surrounding Phoenix area. We understand that dental infections can interfere with eating, sleeping, working, and everyday activities. Our goal is to evaluate the source of your symptoms and determine the appropriate treatment to help protect your oral health.

If you live in Scottsdale or the Phoenix metropolitan area, and believe you may have a dental infection, contact Princess Center Dentistry as soon as possible to discuss your symptoms and request an appointment.

Signs You May Need Emergency Dental Care

Not every toothache is caused by an infection, but persistent or severe dental pain should not be ignored. You should contact our Scottsdale dental office if you experience symptoms such as:

  • Persistent or worsening tooth pain
  • Swelling around the tooth, gums, or face
  • Significant sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Pain when biting or chewing
  • An unpleasant or unusual taste in your mouth
  • A damaged tooth accompanied by pain or swelling
  • Symptoms that interfere with sleeping or daily activities

If you are unsure whether your symptoms require emergency dental care, we recommend contacting Princess Center Dentistry and explaining what you are experiencing. Our team can help determine the appropriate next step.

What Is a Dental Infection?

A dental infection occurs when bacteria enter areas of a tooth or surrounding oral tissues and cause inflammation or infection. A problem that begins with tooth decay, damage, or another dental concern can sometimes progress if it is left untreated.

A dental infection may cause a toothache, sensitivity, swelling, tenderness, or discomfort when eating. Some people may also notice an unpleasant taste in their mouth. Symptoms can vary from person to person, which is why we recommend having persistent or worsening dental pain evaluated rather than attempting to diagnose the problem yourself.

At Princess Center Dentistry, we can perform an examination and X-rays when appropriate to evaluate your teeth and determine what may be causing your symptoms. Once we understand the problem, we can explain your treatment options and help you decide on the appropriate next step.

What Should we Do While Waiting for Dental Care?

If you are experiencing tooth pain or possible infection and cannot be seen immediately, keeping your mouth clean and avoiding activities that aggravate the affected area may help you remain more comfortable while you wait for professional evaluation.

You can gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water and continue maintaining your normal oral hygiene routine while being careful around the painful area. Over-the-counter pain medication may provide temporary relief when used according to the product’s directions and when it is appropriate for you.

Do not place aspirin directly against your tooth or gums. This can irritate or damage the surrounding tissues.

Most importantly, temporary relief does not address the underlying cause of a dental infection. We recommend arranging an appointment so that we can evaluate the problem and determine whether additional dental care is necessary.

When Is a Dental Infection an Emergency?

Some symptoms require more urgent attention than others. If swelling is making it difficult to breathe or swallow, seek emergency medical care immediately. Significant facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or other serious symptoms should not be managed by waiting for a routine dental appointment.

For less severe symptoms such as tooth pain, localized swelling, or sensitivity, contact Princess Center Dentistry promptly. Early evaluation can help identify the underlying problem before it becomes more extensive.
