Having a healthy mouth is something that our team advocates at Princess Center Dentistry. Patients may get frustrated about certain oral conditions, such as maintaining fresh breath. For many with halitosis, it seems as though they will never be able to get rid of the ailment.
If you are suffering from bad breath, you should pay specific attention to your overall dental health. Often times, halitosis is the result of improper dental hygiene, and by simply brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash regularly, you will find that the condition will change. It is important to note that the mouthwash you use must be alcohol-free; those containing alcohol excessively dry out the mouth, which can complicate bad breath even more.
Halitosis may also be caused by prescription medications or particular foods that you eat. However, in more than 80% of the cases, bad breath is the result of oral health complications, such as gum disease, dental cavities, cracked fillings, or dirty dentures.
In order to keep your breath fresh and minty, remember to start by drinking plenty of water. Staying hydrated flushes out troublesome bacteria, which accumulate and ultimately lead to producing odors. Milk is another ideal beverage, as it can assist in deodorization. Avoid sugary drinks, and even coffee, which leaves deposits on the back of your tongue, and can be the source of bad breath. Smoking should also be given up, as it is obvious what it can do to your breath, and even worse, your health. While mints can temporarily freshen up your mouth, they are unable to make bacteria go away. Instead, opt for sugarless gum, and chew on it right after a meal; this increases saliva flow, which is extremely helpful in fighting off bacteria!
